DeVilbiss Recalls Air Compressors Due to Fire Hazard WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Air compressors Units: About 460,000 Manufacturer: DeVilbiss Air Power Company of Jackson, Tenn. Hazard: The air compressor motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: DeVilbiss received nine reports of motors overheating, including three reports of fire damage to surrounding property. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled compressors were sold under the Craftsman, Delta Shopmaster, DeVilbiss, Husky and Porter-Cable brand names. The model number and manufacture date on each unit is located on the unit name plate on the tank. The model numbers, brands, tank size, orientation and color are shown below:
Sold at: DeVilbiss, Porter-Cable, Husky, and Delta Shopmaster brand compressors were sold at home centers nationwide from January 2003 through December 2004 for between $199 and $299. Craftsman-brand compressors were sold at Sears stores nationwide from September 2000 through December 2005 for between $199 and $229. Manufactured in: United States Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled compressors and call DeVilbiss or Sears for a free inspection and repair. Additional Injuries Prompt DeVilbiss to Reannounce Recall of Pressure Washers and Air Compressors Due to Fracture and Laceration Hazards WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: DeVilbiss Air Power Company Pressure Washers and Air Compressors Units: About 620,000 pressure washers and 72,000 compressors previously recalled in December 2006 Manufacturer: DeVilbiss Air Power Company, of Jackson, Tenn. Hazard: The pressure washers and air compressors have pneumatic tires with plastic hubs that can burst, posing fracture and laceration hazards to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: DeVilbiss has received more than 100 injury reports, including hand and finger fractures and lacerations and reports of minor property damage and damage to vehicles. The December 2006 recall announcement reported more than 26 reports of injuries. Description: The recalled pressures washers and air compressors were sold under the following brands and model numbers:
The pressure washers’ brand, model number and manufacturing date are located on the name plate on the rear of the engine base. On the air compressors the brand, model number and manufacturing date are located on the front of the motor housing. Only pressure washers and compressors with pneumatic tires with plastic tire hubs are affected; pressure washers and compressors with solid tires or metal tire hubs are not affected. Sold at: Both products were sold at home centers and hardware stores nationwide. Recalled pressure washers were sold from January 2004 through November 2005 for between $300 and $1,400. The recalled air compressors were sold between December 2004 and October 2006 for between $300 and $500. Manufactured in: United States Remedy: Consumers should stop using these products immediately and contact DeVilbiss to obtain the location of the nearest service center to receive a free replacement of the tires. Campbell Hausfeld Recalls Air Compressors Due to Fire Hazard; Sold Exclusively at Wal-Mart WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Campbell Hausfeld Air Compressors Units: About 16,000 Importer: Campbell Hausfeld, of Harrison, Ohio Hazard: The compressor’s thermal overload, which shuts the unit off when it overheats, can fail. This can lead to overheating, melting of parts and a risk of fire. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: The recall involves the Campbell Hausfeld model HU200099AV air compressor with a 20-gallon tank. The recall includes date codes ranging from January 2009 through June 2009. The model number and date code can be located on the back of the tank. Sold at: Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2009 through June 2009 for about $250. Manufactured in: China Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air compressor and return it to any Wal-Mart for a full refund. Portable Air Compressors Sold Exclusively at Advance Auto Parts Stores Recalled Due to Fire and Electrical Hazards WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Strike Force™ Portable Air Compressors Units: About 64,000 Supplier: All-Power America, of City of Industry, Calif. Importer: Advance Stores Co., d.b.a. Advance Auto Parts, of Roanoke, Va. Hazard: The compressor’s motor can overheat and ignite the protective cover, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Also, the cover might not prevent internal components from being touched, which poses an electrical shock hazard. Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of fires. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recall involves the 4.6 gallon, 3.5 HP Strike Force™ brand portable air compressor and includes the following model and serial numbers:
The compressor has twin air tanks that are black-colored. The model and serial numbers are located on the compressor’s housing. Sold at: Advance Auto Parts stores nationwide and online at www.partsamerica.com from October 2006 through December 2007 for about $90. Recalls Air Compressors Due to Fire and Electrocution Hazards WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the manufacturers named below, today announced voluntary recalls of the following consumer products. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: Mini 2-Galllon Pancake Air Compressors Units: About 11,300 Importer: Tap Enterprises, Inc., dba Cummins Industrial Tools, of Spring Hill, Kansas Hazard: An undersized power cord can overheat and pose a fire hazard. In addition, improper assembly of the power cord strain relief component and improper routing of internal conductors can cause a shock hazard to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 40 reports of compressors failing to work, including two incidents of smoke and fire. One incident resulted in $30,000 worth of property damage to a stand-alone garage. No injuries have been reported. Description: The mini-pancake air compressors were sold with yellow, blue, gray or silver-painted tanks. Item #2112 and "CUMMINS INDUSTRIAL TOOLS, AIR COMPRESSOR (OILESS), 110V.60Hz, 2 Gallon, Made in China" can be found on the motor housing. Sold Through: Mobile merchant sales, Web sites, and newspaper advertisements nationwide from June 2004 through March 2006 for about $50. Manufactured in: China Remedy: Consumers should stop using the 2-gallon mini compressors immediately and contact Cummins for a refund of the purchase price including shipping. CPSC, DeWALT Announce Recall to Repair Air Compressors WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: DeWALT Model D55143 Three-Gallon Hand-Carry Oil Free Air Compressor. Units: About 3,840 units Manufacturer: DeWALT Industrial Tool Company, Baltimore, Md. Hazard: Due to a wiring insulation defect, the unit may pose a possible shock hazard. Incidents/Injuries: No injuries reported. Description: Only DeWALT D55143 three-gallon hand-carry oil free air compressors with the following date codes: 200448, 200453, 200502 through 200505, 200508, and 200509 are included in the recall. The date code is printed on the name plate on the rear air tank of the unit. Units marked with an "R" on the end cap of the unit are not included in this recall. Sold At: Home center and hardware stores nationwide from January 2005 through April 2005 for about $250. Manufactured in: China. Remedy: Consumers should stop using the compressors immediately and contact DeWALT for the location of the nearest service center to receive a free inspection or repair if necessary.
