Welcome to
the April 2007 edition of the RepairClinic.com newsletter. Spring is in
the air, which means spring cleaning can't be far behind. As you make
your "to-do" list, don't forget to include your household appliances.
Most maintenance and repair projects don't take very long, and are a great
way to kick off the season.
Customer
Nick J. Lights up his Oven
Nick and Rene J. of Huber Heights, Ohio
"I
usually do the repairs around the house, unless it involves a messy
situation like the sewer," said Nick. "So when the oven
light on our Whirlpool range stopped working, I knew that would
be a quick and easy fix."
Nick
replaced the bulb - which he thought was burnt out - with a new
one. However, the oven light still refused to come on when he or
his wife opened the door. "That's when I figured it had to
be a problem with the switch that was supposed to activate the light,"
said Nick.
Unfortunately,
finding a replacement switch was harder than he expected.
"Our local hardware store didn't carry switches," explained
Nick. "I looked in the phone book and still couldn't find the
help I was looking for. A friend suggested that I go online, so
that's what I did."

Spring
Spruce Ups for Range / Stoves / Ovens
Knob Maintenance
- over time the knobs on ranges, stoves and ovens become impossible to
clean and make the whole appliance look run-down. The knobs can usually
be removed by pulling them straight off. Then, they can be cleaned with
a damp cloth and dish detergent. If your cooking appliance knobs have
been broken, or the numbers and lettering are no longer legible you can
find replacement knobs for your specific appliance with the help of the
PartDetective.
Cook-top
Maintenance - did you know that drip pans or bowls beneath the heating
elements on your range or stove (gas or electric) usually need to be replaced
every 2 to 3 years? These pans catch food debris and also function as
a reflective device for faster heating. Cleaning your drip pans and bowls
when they get dirty will extend their life and reduce the energy required
to cook your food.
Oven Maintenance
- Spring-time is a good time to clean ovens as you can open up the windows
for extra ventilation. Many ovens have a self-cleaning function that heats
the oven to a temperature that incinerates any spills. If your oven doesn't
have self-cleaning capabilities, oven spray cleaners are available at
many local stores.
