Getting to theHeartof the Dryer Problem

Guru

Don’t let your dryer push you over the edge.

Follow our simple tips to help keep your dryer working without a hitch.  And if you do run into problems, don’t worry – just check out the repair help section of our website for basic solutions.  If your repair problem is more complicated, email the RepairGuru; chances are, he’ll know what to do.

As your mental debate between Valentine’s Day chocolates and flowers continues, you take a break and slip into the laundry room to check on your clothes.  Hmmm, they’re still not dry? You could swear you put them in the dryer 45 minutes ago… but they really don’t seem to be any drier, so you throw them back in for another 30 minutes, and sure enough, they’re still wet! You’re starting to get a little antsy--you need to get out the door to meet your friends. This is no time for your dryer to be on the blink.

Something must have happened while you were out:

1.  Cupid wants to mix things up a bit, so he’s sabotaging your plans…
2.  Come to think of it, your best friend told you never to wear that shirt again - maybe he’s involved…
3. Or when all else fails, blame the dog…

Here’s probably what’s really going on:

1.
The vent duct going from the dryer to the outside of your house is clogged with lint or other obstructions.  For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be kept clean and clear—read more about this on our website.
2.

For electric dryers, the heating element may be partially or completely burned out. If this is the case, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three to four times as long to dry the clothes.  You can order a replacement heating element on our website.

3.
Just like the external ductwork, the internal ductwork could be clogged.  It must also be kept clear of lint and debris for the dryer to continue to work properly.  To access and clean the ductwork, you will need to disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct.  If it looks clogged, try to clear it with your vacuum.  You can even order a special attachment for your vacuum to get into those hard to reach areas.

Okay, but what about the chocolate and flowers debate…
