Fridge on the Fringe

Guru

Don’t let your refrigerator push you over the edge.

Follow our simple tips to help keep your fridge working without a hitch.  And if you do run into problems, don’t worry – just check out the repair help section of our website for basic solutions.

If your repair problem is more complicated, email the RepairGuru; chances are, he’ll know what to do.

Your best friend’s asked you to offer lodging for a few relatives the weekend of his wedding.  You’ve spent days getting ready for their arrival, including stocking your fridge with food - everything from fruit and veggies to meat and sandwich fixin’s.  You’ve thought of just about everything.

Then it happens.  Just as the relatives are about to arrive, you open the fridge door and take out a drink – uh,oh – it feels warm!  With a little more investigation, you notice that none of the food seems cold, and you’re wondering how much longer the food will last.

Now What?
1.
Ask the government for an “appliance bailout"
2.

Have the dog perform tricks to distract your hungry guests.

3.
Go to our website – we’ll help you figure out what’s wrong…

Here’s a reality check:
1.
What’s the temperature? Find out what the actual internal temperature is: chances are, it hasn’t stopped cooling completely – but it might not be cooling as it should.
2.

Evaporator fan motor is stuck- This fan motor is located in the freezer section and circulates air through the evaporator coil and into the freezer and refrigerator compartments. If it's stuck, it may not spin fast enough to distribute cool air.

3.
Condenser is dirty - The condenser coil is a black metal coil, usually underneath the appliance. It must be kept clean to allow heat from the coil to dissipate. Use a condenser brush and a vacuum cleaner for this task.
