Temperature Control Thermostat - Part # 445530 Mfg Part # 216303600

Temperature Control Thermostat

RepairClinic Item # 445530

If the freezer runs too long the temperature control thermostat might be defective. The thermostat allows power to flow through to the compressor, evaporator fan and condenser fan. Try rotating the temperature control thermostat all the way from stop to stop and listen for a click. If the thermostat clicks it's probably OK. If not, remove it and check it for continuity. It should have continuity when it's calling for cooling.

Evaporator Fan Motor - Part # 1063698 Mfg Part # 5304442620

Evaporator Fan Motor

RepairClinic Item # 1063698

If the freezer runs too long the evaporator fan motor might have stopped working. On the back wall of the freezer, normally behind a panel which can be removed, there is a small fan. This fan draws air over the evaporator cooling coils and moves it around inside the freezer. If the freezer runs too long, the evaporator fan motor should be checked. Often the fan motor will not run when the door is open, activate the door switch for the fan to work. If the evaporator fan motor doesn't run when the freezer is cooling and the door switch is activated, it should be replaced.

Defrost Timer - Part # 2024665 Mfg Part # 297318010

Defrost Timer

RepairClinic Item # 2024665

If the freezer runs too long, the defrost timer might be defective. Several times a day the defrost timer turns on the defrost heater for a few minutes to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the freezer evaporator coils. In order for this to work, the defrost timer has to be advancing properly. If the timer is defective it may not advance and turn on the defrost heater. If the defrost heater doesn't turn on, the frost will build up on the coils and eventually no air will be able to travel through the coils to provide cooling to the freezer. The defrost timer should be replaced if it is not advancing, it cannot be repaired.

Defrost Thermostat - Part # 445243 Mfg Part # 216254500

Defrost Thermostat

RepairClinic Item # 445243

If the freezer runs too long, the defrost thermostat might be defective. Several times a day the defrost heater turns on for a few minutes to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the freezer evaporator coils. In order for this to work, the defrost thermostat has to sense that the coils are cold enough. If the coils are cold enough the defrost heater will turn on. If the thermostat is defective it may not be able to sense the temperature of the coils and then won't turn on the defrost heater. If the defrost heater doesn't turn on, the frost will build up on the coils and eventually no air will be able to travel through the coils to provide cooling to the freezer. The defrost thermostat can be checked for continuity. It should have continuity when it reaches the low temperature of its operating range.
