If the grinding plate, or shredding plate is jammed, use the disposer wrench (or a 1/4 inch Allen wrench) inserted into the bottom center of the disposer to wiggle it back and forth to free it.

Other Causes and Conditions

Non Serviceable Motor

If the motor hums the grinding plate might be stuck or worn out. Use the disposer wrench (or a 1/4 inch Allen wrench) inserted into the bottom center of the disposer to wiggle the grinding plate back and forth. If the motor still hums after the plate is freed the disposer will need to be replaced.
