The auger motor spins the auger blade in the ice compartment and forces it toward the dispenser chute. If the motor is burned out or just hums and wont turn the ice won't move forward and fall through the chute. The auger motor can be tested for continuity. Pull out the ice bucket and make sure the bucket auger turns free before replacing a suspected bad auger motor.

If the refrigerator ice dispenser is not working but the auger motor makes a sound as though it's running and the auger is turning, the dispenser door solenoid might be defective and not allow the dispenser door to open. The dispenser door on this model has a small solenoid which opens and closes the door to keep the cold air in the freezer. The solenoid can be checked for continuity and replaced separately as needed.
