Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace the recoil starter pulley on your string trimmer and pruner first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

Remove the screws securing the recoil starter assembly.

Pull the recoil starter off and set it on a sturdy surface.

Untie the knot securing the starter rope to the handle and remove the handle.

Now hold the recoil starter pulley and slowly release the tension on the spring.

Remove the starter assembly screw and pull off the starter hub and starter hub spring.

Carefully remove the old recoil starter pulley be aware the rewind spring can easily become dislodged and cause injury.

Unwind the starter rope from the pulley lift the knotted end of the rope out of the channel and pull the rope free.

You’re now ready to install the new recoil starter pulley.

Insert the starter rope through the hole in the new pulley pull the rope through and insert the knotted end into the channel.

Wind the rope counter- clockwise around the pulley.

Making sure the rope is secured in the notch align the new pulley and rotate it until the rewind spring catches onto the pulley tab.

Position the new starter hub spring and starter hub.

Hold the pulley as you secure the assembly with the screw.

Now rotate the pulley counter-clockwise approximately three-to-four times to put tension on the spring.

Release the end of the rope from the notch in the pulley and feed it through the hole in the starter housing.

Insert the end of the rope into the handle and tie a knot to secure.

Confirm that the recoil assembly rotates freely.

Realign the assembly on the main housing.

Replace the screws to secure.

Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your string trimmer and pruner should be ready for use.
