Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace the starter cup on your string trimmer and pruner first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

Remove the screws securing the recoil starter assembly.

Pull the recoil starter off.

Next, use a socket or spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.

Now confirm that the piston is in the “down” position.

Insert a cord or rope into the cylinder to prevent the piston from moving.

Now use a 5/16th inch Allen wrench to unthread the locking plate securing the old starter cup.

You’re now ready to install the new starter cup.

Insert the locking plate into the new cup.

Align the assembly on the crankshaft, thread it into place and tighten.

Remove the cord or rope from the cylinder.

Replace the spark plug.

Be careful not to over tighten the plug.

Realign the recoil starter and replace the screws to secure it.

Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your string trimmer and pruner should be ready for use.
