This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the chain bar on Poulan Pro pole pruners. The most common reason for replacing the chain bar is if it is bent or worn out, causing the chain to not cut properly.

All of the information in this chain bar replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Poulan, Poulan Pro

Tools used: ratchet and socket, combo wrench, flat-head screwdriver

Step By Step Instructions

1
To replace the chain bar on your pole pruner first loosen the locking nut then unscrew the knob securing the lower drive shaft.
2
Depress the alignment pin to fully release the lower drive shaft.
3
Now set the pruner head on a sturdy surface and remove the nut securing the drive sprocket cover.
4
Remove the cover and lift the chain bar and chain off.
5
Remove the chain from the old bar.
6
You’re now ready to install the new chain bar.
7
Align the chain on the new bar.
8
Make sure the teeth on the chain are facing towards the front end of the chain bar on the top and away from the front end on the bottom.
9
Loop the chain on the drive sprocket as you align the chain bar on the mounting bolts.
10
To replace the cover, the chain tensioner will need to be inserted into the hole in the chain bar.
11
You will probably need to rotate the tension adjustment screw counter-clockwise to properly align the tensioner.
12
With the cover in place, hand-tighten the nut.
13
Now rotate the adjustment screw clockwise until there is no slack in the chain.
14
Fully tighten the nut and confirm that the chain is taut, but moves freely.
15
Insert the lower drive shaft into the upper drive shaft until the alignment pin snaps into place.
16
Tighten the knob first then tighten the locking nut.
17
Your pole pruner should now be ready for use.
