This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the carburetor on Poulan Pro pole pruners with string trimmer attachment. The most common reason for replacing the carburetor is if it is clogged, causing the engine to not run or run poorly, and cleaning it does not fix the problem.

All of the information in this carburetor replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Poulan Pro, Craftsman

Tools used: nut driver, Torx head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, flat-head screwdriver

Step By Step Instructions

1
Before you replace the carburetor on your string trimmer and pruner first make sure the engine has cooled.
2
Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
3
Now rotate the knob to release the filter cover and remove the air filter.
4
Remove the nuts and screw securing the filter housing.
5
Use pliers to depress the tabs to release the primer bulb from the housing.
6
Detach the “z”-end of the throttle cable from the carburetor and set the filter housing assembly aside.
7
Pull the old carburetor off of the mounting bolts.
8
Note the orientation of the fuel lines attached to the carburetor and primer bulb then detach them – be prepared for some fuel to spill.
9
Prepare the new carburetor for installation by transferring the boot from the old carburetor to the new one.
10
Now, attach the appropriate line to the port on the primer bulb and the other line to the carburetor.
11
Slide the carburetor onto the mounting bolts, making sure the boot aligns with the port.
12
Attach the “z”-end of the throttle cable to the carburetor.
13
Position the new primer bulb in the filter housing and snap it into place.
14
Realign the housing on the mounting bolts and replace the screw and nuts to secure.
15
Reposition the air filter.
16
Realign the filter cover and rotate the knob to secure.
17
Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your string trimmer and pruner should be ready for use.
