This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the drive belt (or v-belt) on Toro lawn mowers. The most common reason for replacing the drive belt is when the mower’s wheels don’t turn.
All the information in this drive belt replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Toro. Tools used: ratchet and socket, multi screwdriver. Step-By-Step Instructions 1 Before you install the drive belt on your lawn mower first make sure the engine has cooled. 2 Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting. 3 You should also remove the grass bag if applicable. 4 Now carefully tip the mower on its side. 5 Be prepared for some fuel or engine oil to spill out. 6 Remove the screws securing the belt cover and pull the cover off. 7 Now remove the screws securing the transmission bracket. 8 Disconnect the traction cable spring and move the cable and bracket out of the way. 9 Unthread the belt from the transmission pulley if still intact. 10 Next, remove one of the screws securing the belt guard and loosen the second screw. 11 If still intact, carefully pull the old belt free of the drive pulley and blade. 12 Install the new drive belt by positioning it around the blade and feed it through the hole in the deck. 13 Position the belt under the belt guard and loop it onto the drive pulley. 14 Hold the belt in place as you reposition the belt guard and secure it with the screws. 15 Now loop the opposite end of the belt onto the transmission pulley. 16 Reattach the traction cable spring and reposition the transmission bracket. 17 Replace the screws to secure. 18 Reposition the belt cover and secure it with the screws. 19 Return the mower to its upright position. 20 Replace the grass bag if applicable. 21 You’re now ready to reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and confirm that the new belt is working properly.
