All of the information in this vent damper replacement video is applicable to the following brands: GE, Hotpoint, RCA, Kenmore Tools used: multi-screwdriver, Phillips head bit Step-By-Step Instructions 1 As with most repairs, you should unplug the power cord first. 2 To replace the vent damper on your microwave oven, you will need to uninstall the appliance. 3 To do this, first remove the screws on the bottom of the appliance to release the bottom panel. 4 Next, disconnect the wire connectors from the light sockets remove the wires from the retainers and detach the bottom panel completely. 5 Now, have an assistant support the microwave while you remove the mounting bolts from the upper cabinet. 6 Carefully tilt the microwave down and pull the power cord through the hole in the cabinet. 7 Now, lift the microwave off the rear mounting bracket and set it on a sturdy surface, resting on a towel or blanket. 8 Now unthread the screw securing the old vent damper and carefully slide the damper up to remove. 9 If the damper is positioned on top of the oven, simply slide it to the left. 10 Install the new vent damper by sliding it into position then secure it with the screw if applicable. 11 Remove the tape to release the vent flap. 12 Now carefully reposition the microwave oven on the mounting bracket by hooking the back edge of the appliance on the bracket tabs. 13 Insert the power cord through the hole in the upper cabinet. 14 Lift the microwave up and secure the mounting bolts. 15 Reattach the bottom panel. 16 Reconnect the wires to the light sockets and secure the wires as required. 17 Reposition the panel and secure the screws. 18 With the repair completed, plug the power cord back in and your microwave oven should be ready for use.
