Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace the rear axle on your lawn mower first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

We recommend performing this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.

Note the position of the rear adjustment lever then lift up the rear of the mower and support it.

Use a flat-head screwdriver to help pry off both rear wheel covers.

Now use a 9/16th inch socket to help loosen the mounting nuts securing the rear wheels.

Unthread the nuts and remove both wheels.

Now carefully set the lawn mower on its side and use a large flat-head screwdriver to depress the retaining tabs holding the old axle in place.

Pull the old axle free.

You’re now ready to install the new rear axle.

With the adjustment lever on the right side of the mower, align the new axle and snap it into place in the housing.

Return the mower to its upright position and support it.

Replace both wheels by sliding them onto the new axle.

Rethread the mounting nuts and tighten.

Align the wheel covers and snap them into place.

Remove the support and confirm that the adjustment lever is at the appropriate position.

With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug refill the fuel tank and your lawn mower should be ready for use.
