All of the information in this starter rope replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Echo, Shindaiwa Tools used: T25 Torx bit screwdriver, spring clamp, Phillips head screwdriver, pliers Step-By-Step Instructions 1 Before you replace the starter rope in your leaf blower make sure the engine has cooled and the on-off switch is in the “off” position. 2 Use a t-25 torx bit screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the fuel tank support plate. 3 Pull the plate off then remove the top screws securing the recoil starter. 4 Pull the starter free and set it on a sturdy surface. 5 If still intact, extend the starter rope and use a spring clamp to secure it. 6 Untie the knot and slide off the handle. 7 Remove the clamp and carefully release the tension on the spring. 8 Use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screw securing the starter pulley. 9 Lift out the pulley and unwind the rope. 10 You can use pliers to fully remove the old rope from the pulley. 11 Install the new starter rope by inserting one end through the hole on the designated right side of the pulley. 12 Tie a knot and seat the knot in the pulley. 13 With the knot facing upward, wind the new rope counter-clockwise around the pulley. 14 Position the pulley in the starter housing and rotate counter-clockwise until it hooks onto the spring. 15 Continue to rotate the pulley counter-clockwise approximately one-and-a-half turns then insert the rope through the hole in the housing. 16 Hold the pulley in place as you thread and tighten the screw to secure. 17 Use the spring clamp to secure the rope and slide on the handle. 18 Tie a knot at the end of the rope to secure the handle. 19 Remove the clamp and confirm that the rope moves freely. 20 Reposition the starter on the engine housing. 21 Rethread and tighten the screws at the top. 22 Realign the support plate and secure it with the screws. 23 With the repair completed turn the on-off switch to the “on” position and your leaf blower should be ready for use.
