All of the information for this grip replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Honda Tools needed: Phillips head screwdriver, flat head screwdriver Step-By-Step Instructions 1 Before you replace the lower clutch cable grip on your lawn mower first make sure the engine has cooled. 2 Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting. 3 Use a phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the clutch lever assembly. 5 Note the orientation of the upper and lower twist actuators then use a flat-head screwdriver to depress the retaining tabs to separate the actuators. 6 Remove the actuator pin and unthread the screws securing the upper and lower grips. 7 Detach the upper grip and rotate the lower grip to release it from the clutch cable. 8 Install the new lower clutch cable grip by first aligning the clutch cable eyelet. 9 Now position the new lower grip in the slot in the handle. 10 Realign the upper grip and replace the screws to secure. 11 To loosen the clutch cable, use a screwdriver to increase the tension on the transmission spring. 12 Insert the actuator pin into the cable eyelet. 13 Reposition the upper and lower twist actuators making sure the pin is properly aligned in the grooves then snap the pieces together. 14 You can now release the tension on the transmission spring. 15 Align the clutch arm cover over the grip assembly and position the select lever and spring in the cover. 16 Position the clutch lever and thread the screws to secure. 17 With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your lawn mower should be ready for use.
