Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace a rear wheel dust seal on your lawn mower first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting and close the fuel valve.

We recommend performing this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.

If you’re replacing the right side dust seal, we recommend draining the oil as well.

Now lift up the rear of the mower and support it.

Use a 12mm socket to unthread the bolt securing the appropriate wheel and remove the wheel.

Use snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring securing the pinion gear.

Note the orientation of the pinion gear then slide off the gear and washer.

Remove the dust cover and slide off the small spacer washer.

Release the snap ring securing the large spacer washer and remove it.

Now carefully tip the mower on its side.

Release the large snap ring securing the wheel support assembly and slide off the assembly.

If still intact, you can use a small flat-head screwdriver to pry the old dust seal out of the support.

Install the new dust seal by inserting it into the support.

Now reposition the adjuster arm on the support with the tab facing up.

Position the wheel support assembly on the axle with the adjuster arm disengaged from the plate.

Slide the washer up and secure the large snap ring.

Set the adjuster arm to the desired position.

You can now return the mower to its upright position and support it.

Make sure the axle is fully extended through the support.

Slide on the large spacer washer.

Replace the snap ring and slide on the small spacer washer.

Replace the dust cover.

Confirm that the ratchet return spring is intact in the axle then insert the ratchet key.

Hold the key in place as you properly align the pinion gear.

Slide on the washer and secure the assembly with the snap ring.

Insert the mounting bolt through the wheel and slide on the wave washer with the curved edge facing down followed by the flat washer.

Position the dust cover align the wheel assembly then thread and tighten the mounting bolt to secure.

With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug refill the fuel tank replace the oil if necessary and your lawn mower should be ready for use.
