Before you replace a rear wheel dust cover on your lawn mower first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

Now lift up the rear of the mower and support it.

Use a 12mm socket to unthread the bolt securing the appropriate wheel and remove the wheel.

Use snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring securing the pinion gear.

Remove the washer and note the orientation of the pinion gear then slide off the gear.

Remove the old dust cover.

Install the new dust cover by positioning it over the axle.

Confirm that the ratchet return spring is intact in the axle then insert the ratchet key.

Hold the key in place as you properly realign the pinion gear.

Slide on the washer and secure the assembly with the snap ring.

Insert the mounting bolt through the wheel and slide on the wave washer with the curved edge facing outward followed by the flat washer.

Fully position the new dust cover align the wheel assembly then thread and tighten the mounting bolt to secure.

With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your lawn mower should be ready for use.
