This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the igniter on Frigidaire gas dryers. The most common reason for replacing the igniter is when the dryer doesn’t heat.

All of the information in this igniter replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Frigidaire, Westinghouse, Kenmore, Electrolux, Crosley, Gibson

Tools used: putty knife, screwdriver, wrench

Step By Step Instructions

As with any repair, be sure you unplug the appliance before beginning and turn off the gas supply.

Your first step is to insert a putty knife under the front of the main top to release the spring clips.

Now rotate the top up and support it.

If you dryer has a rear control panel

You next step is to disconnect the door switch wires.

If your dryer has the control panel in the front you will need to disconnect the wire harness.

If necessary, you may also need to remove the zip tie securing the wires.

Now, remove the front panel mounting screws and pull the front panel up and out to remove.

Use a wrench to secure the gas line pipe fitting while using a second wrench to loosen the nut.

Be aware this may require some effort.

Disconnect the two wire harnesses.

Remove the mounting screw to release the burner assembly.

Now disconnect the igniter wiring harness and remove the screw to release the old igniter.

You’re now ready to install the new igniter.

Being careful not to touch the element itself, align the igniter support bracket with the burner assembly and secure the mounting screw.

Reconnect the igniter’s wiring harnesses.

Align the mounting bracket tab with the slot in the base and secure the burner assembly with the mounting screw.

Reconnect the wire harnesses.

Thread the valve nut onto the gas line pipe fitting and tighten with the wrenches.

Reinstall the front panel by aligning the slots at the bottom of the panel with the support clips then lift up the drum as you snap the front panel into place.

Secure the mounting screws and reconnect the wire harness or door switch wires depending on your model.

Use a zip tie to secure the wires.

Rotate the main top back into place and press down on the front to secure the spring clips.

You’re now ready to turn the gas supply back on and plug the appliance back in to make sure it’s functioning properly.
