Before you begin this repair, make sure the engine has cooled remove the wire and boot from the spark plug and turn off the fuel valve.

Your first step is to use a socket to remove the fasteners securing the recoil starter assembly to the engine shroud.

Note the position of the starter handle and set the old starter aside.

Install the new recoil starter by aligning it with the shroud and secure the fasteners.

With the new starter in place, you can now turn the fuel valve back on and reattach the spark plug wire and boot.
