All of the information in this replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Ryobi Step-By-Step Instructions 1 Ryobi String Trimmer - Model RY253SS 2 String Trimmer Engine Cover Replacement 4 You will need a T-20 Torx bit and a business card (or similar paper) for this procedure. 6 "Before you begin, confirm the engine has cooled." 7 Use a T-20 Torx bit to unthread the five screws securing the recoil starter assembly to the engine cover and engine. 8 Set the recoil starter aside and unthread the four front screws securing the engine cover. 9 "With the screws unthreaded, separate the engine from the cover." 10 Detach the wire from the ignition coil and detach the ignition coil wire from the spark plug. 11 "Rotate the flywheel magnets away from the ignition coil, then use the T-20 Torx bit to unthread the two mounting screws." 12 Release the wires from the retainers to fully remove the old coil. 13 Install the new ignition coil by first sliding the grounding wire over the right-side screw. 14 Insert the screws through the ignition coil base and align the washers and spacers. 15 Position the coil on the engine and thread the screws loosely. 16 Now lift the ignition coil up and tighten the screws. 17 Attach the wire to the ignition coil terminal. 18 Secure the wires in the retainers and secure the wire sleeve in the insulator. 19 Now rotate the flywheel to align the magnets with the coil then insert a business card between the coil and flywheel. 20 Loosen the screws to align the coil the correct distance from the flywheel. 21 Retighten the screws and remove the card. 22 Attach the ignition coil wire to the plug. 23 Realign the engine assembly with the cover. 24 Rethread the screws in front. 25 "Reposition the recoil starter on the engine assembly, making sure the recoil pulley engages with the starter pawls." 26 "Thread the screws to secure, keeping in mind the larger screws go on the bottom." 27 Congrats!
