"You will need a 5/16th inch socket, a 3/8th inch socket (or nut driver) and a small flat-head screwdriver for this procedure. "

Align the slot in the flanged washer with the slot in the gear case and insert a small flat-head screwdriver.

You can now rotate the trimmer head clockwise to detach.

"Next, use a 5/16th inch socket or nut driver to unthread the locking screw."

"Using a 3/8th inch socket or nut driver, unthread the clamp screw and you can remove the old gear case."

"Install the new gear case by positioning it on the drive shaft, then thread the clamp screw loosely."

Align the hole in the gear case with the hole in the drive shaft and thread the locking screw.

"With the gear case secure, tighten the clamp screw."

"Reinstall the trimmer head by first aligning the flanged washer, then thread the head on counter-clockwise."

"Align the slots, insert the screwdriver, then rotate the head to lock it into place."
