This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the drive block on GE top-load washing machines. The most common reason to replace the drive block is if it becomes worn, which causes the washer to make a loud knocking noise, not agitate, or not spin.

To replace the drive block, open the washer lid then lift up the dispenser cover and rotate the dispenser cup counter-clockwise to remove.
Use a 7/16th inch socket to remove the agitator bolt then lift off the agitator.
Remove the old drive block.
Install the new drive block by sliding it onto the agitator shaft.
Replace the agitator and secure it with the bolt.
Align the groove in the dispenser cup with the tabs in the agitator and rotate clockwise to lock it into place.
Close the dispenser cover.
With the new drive block installed, you’re now ready to plug the power cord back in and confirm that the appliance is functioning properly.
