If your freezer’s evaporator coils keep frosting over, either the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat could be malfunctioning. You can use a multimeter to test both of these parts for continuity, a continuous electrical path present in the part. If the heater tests negative for continuity, then the part is defective and will need to be replaced. Be aware that the defrost thermostat will need to be tested at a temperature of 15° Fahrenheit or lower for a proper reading. If the part tests negative for continuity at this temperature, it is malfunctioning.
