Step By Step Instructions

Before you replace the rewind spring on your string trimmer first make sure the engine has cooled.

Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

Now remove the screws securing the engine cover and pull the cover off.

Remove the screws securing the recoil starter assembly.

Pull the starter off.

Untie the knot securing the starter rope to the handle and remove the handle.

Now hold the recoil starter pulley and slowly release the tension on the spring if still intact.

Remove the starter assembly screw and pull off the starter hub and starter hub spring.
9
Gently remove the recoil starter pulley and the coiled spring underneath.

Be aware the spring can cause injury so use eye protection and use a towel to help contain the spring.

You’re now ready to install the new rewind spring.

Carefully remove the rubber band from the spring.

Now align the hook in the spring with the slot in the cover as you gently push the coiled spring out of the wire retainer and into place.

Be aware this may be difficult.

Making sure the rope is secured in the notch align the recoil starter pulley and rotate it until the new rewind spring catches onto the pulley tab.

Replace the starter hub spring and starter hub.

Hold the pulley as you secure the screw.

Now rotate the pulley counter-clockwise approximately three-or-four times to put tension on the spring.

Release the end of the rope from the notch in the pulley and feed it through the hole in the starter housing.

Make sure the rope retainer is seated in the handle then insert the end of the rope through the handle and tie a knot to secure.

Make sure the knot is seated in the handle and confirm that the recoil assembly rotates freely.

Realign the assembly on the main housing.

Replace the screws to secure.

Reposition the engine cover and reinstall the screws to secure it.
25
Attach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your string trimmer should be ready for use.
